PK22
by Poul KjaerholmLabel: Fritz Hansen
Year: 1956
The PK22 was an instant succes, both commercial as artistic. In 1957 the design was awarded with a Grand Prix during the Milan Triennale. This gave a huge boost to the career of Kjaerholm and was his final breakthrough as a designer.
The design of the PK22 is a example of Kjaerholms search of the ideal chairdesign with a industrial dimention. The base of the design lies in the PK25, a elementairy chair. Kjaerholm designed it as his graduacion piece for the school of applied art in Kopenhagen. PK22 was, thanks to a number of modifications and distribution of some loose elemants, suitable for the consumer.
The chair is available in wicker, suede and leather, with a base of brushed rvs.
