LaWo stoel
by Han PieckYear: 1946
The LaWo chair was the finalexam piece of Han Pieck. This design was instantly the greatest succes and lifework of the Dutch designer. LaWo stands for 'laminated wood.' The chair exists out of a single piece of laminated birch. In postwar Holland the desiner and his partner didn't find a market, which made them migrate to England. There Han Pieck designed the LaWo II, a dinnerroom version with matching table.
Remarkable: Years later Pieck migrated to Brazil where he started a new life with his family. He started a fotographlab and managed a holidaypark.
Originally there would be 3000 examples made but, due to financial problems, it never came to that amount. Finally there were around 1300 LaWo chairs made. Nowadays the design is a source of inspiration for many designers.
